One in Five Airports in the Region Achieve Safe Travel Score of 4.0 or Higher

JUNE 11, 2021: Airports have been at the forefront of creating a more seamless air traveler journey. If anything, the COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated progress towards a more automated and self-service in-airport passenger experience. Thus, to encourage traveling in the era of the pandemic will require airports to provide a seamless experience be coupled with higher safety needs. Also simultaneously ensure a smooth flow of passengers to prevent overcrowding, conducting checks and maintaining hygiene in the process.

U.A.E-based Abu Dhabi International Airport led the charge among the airports assessed by Safe Travel Barometer in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) leaderboard with a Safe Travel Score of 4.6 out of 5.0. Abu Dhabi also seized pole position in the global leaderboard. Its regional peers followed suit – Hamad International Airport, Dubai International Airport and Istanbul Airport all achieved a Safe Travel Score of 4.4 each in May 2021. Other airports that were on heels with them were King Abdulaziz International Airport with a Safe Travel Score of 4.3 and Kuwait International Airport at 4.1.
