19 Aug Safe Travel Score for Top Middle East-Africa COVID-19 Friendly Airlines Revealed
Emirates rated the best among MEA airlines evaluated by Safe Travel Barometer
Safe Travel Barometer, the world’s most comprehensive database for COVID-19 traveler health and safety protocols, today released Safe Travel Score for airlines worldwide, including for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. The Safe Travel Score is an industry-first rating initiative, based on an independent audit of more than 150 airlines and 20 traveler health and safety measures announced, as part of airlines renewed pre-boarding, boarding and onboard experiences.
Dubai-based Emirates emerged as the leading airline in MEA and the world with a Safe Travel Score of 4.2 out of 5, having implemented extensive traveler health and safety initiatives. Emirates’ customer experience for the ‘new-normal’ includes on-board amenities such as face masks and hand sanitizer; besides having among the most flexible fare rules, particularly the ability to rebook over a two-year period. More recently, the airline also announced a free 14-day COVID-19 insurance cover for all its passengers.
Emirates was closely followed by Etihad Airways with a Safe Travel Score of 4.0 out of 5, followed by Jazeera Airways, Gulf Air and Flyadeal. Other MEA leading airlines such as Qatar, Ethiopian and Turkish achieved a score of 3.8 each, and are included in the regional top 10 list.
“The MEA airlines are known for the extensive networks and hospitality. They continue to bring that ethos in the post-COVID era,” says Virendra Jain, Co-Founder and CEO, Safe Travel. “Emirates continues to trailblaze with its safety measures, aligning itself with what travelers come to expect from airlines in the new normal.”
Jain adds, “The fundamental premise of Safe Travel Score is to benchmark travel brands’ initiatives to reduce traveler anxiety. Our independent rating centered on traveler health and safety measures establishes a baseline for travel brands, while equally offering travelers a glimpse into what they can expect in their journeys.”
